As summer quickly approaches, many people look forward to the taking vacations, getting out their boat, or getting out and enjoying nature. But for others, the only thing they care about is busting out the grill again. There’s nothing like firing up the grill, whether it’s hot dogs for lunch or some steaks for dinner, and enjoying your own outdoor grill and kitchen area. Before you start to clean off your grill, learn about some of the latest outdoor grill trends to expect to see this year.
New Foods
Mushrooms: While you may be used to grilling vegetables such as peppers, onions, zucchini, or even tomatoes on your outdoor grill, one new veggie to expect to see a lot more of is the mushroom. Whether you hate them or love them, they aren’t going anywhere and can add a healthy and intense flavor to any dish. You can also find a lot of more exotic mushrooms at your local supermarket, so be on the lookout and try something new.
Gochujang: You probably remember when Sriracha made its US mainstream debut about ten years ago and even became the Ingredient of the Year for 2010 by Bon Appetit magazine. Well, make room for a new condiment to take center stage. Meet, Gochujang, a Korean chili paste is perfect for adding to any marinade or topping that needs an extra kick.
Gadgets
Like everything else in your home, your grill is also getting a “smart” upgrade. From thermometers that connect to your smartphone, to a cleaning tool that is basically a Roomba for your grill, you can expect to see your outdoor grilling get a lot smarter. Learn about these gadgets and a whole lot more in The Best Grilling and BBQ Gadgets for 2019.
WHOA!
One trend that we are keeping an eye out for in the future is known as the Impossible Burger, aka the meatless burger. Now served at more than 1,300 restaurants, this burger is made up of genetically modified yeast, wheat, and potato protein to create a texture and taste that is said to be the same as an all-beef patty. Beginning this year, you will be able to purchase the Impossible Burger in stores and cook them on your own outdoor grills.
